Shin Haram was born on October 17, 2007, in Jungnang-gu, Seoul, South Korea. From the age of two, she worked as a child model, appearing in commercials for toys and clothing brands throughout her early childhood. At age seven, she won a grand prize at a beauty pageant during her modeling career, establishing herself in the commercial industry before pursuing music professionally.

In August 2018, at age 10, Haram was cast by YG Entertainment and joined the company as a trainee. She trained intensively for five years, dedicating 9-10 hours per day to vocal training, dance practice, and performance preparation. Her exceptional vocal abilities earned her the only scholarship position in the Applied Music Department at Hanlim Arts High School, where she later enrolled alongside fellow BABYMONSTER member Ahyeon.

On January 1, 2023, YG Entertainment released a video titled "YG Next Movement" that confirmed their upcoming girl group's name as BABYMONSTER. Haram appeared briefly in the video practicing, hinting at her membership. On January 12, 2023, she became the first member officially introduced through a live performance video covering Mario's "Let Me Love You."1

Between March and May 2023, all seven potential members participated in "Last Evaluation," a reality series documenting their preparation for debut. During the series, Haram delivered standout vocal performances that impressed both YG founder Yang Hyun-suk and guest judges including AKMU's Lee Su-hyun. Lee Su-hyun specifically praised Haram's talent, noting that people are naturally drawn to those with exceptional skill.2

On November 23, 2023, just days before the group's debut, YG Entertainment revealed that Haram would perform under the new stage name "Rami." According to YG Life, the name was inspired by the members' nickname for her—they called her "Ram" by dropping the "Ha" from Haram. YG Entertainment explained that the name Rami carries meanings of "beloved," "happiness," and "first light," expressing their hope that her voice would deliver love and happiness to everyone.3

BABYMONSTER debuted on November 27, 2023, with the digital single "Batter Up," though the group's official debut date is listed as April 1, 2024, to account for member Ahyeon's later return. As main vocalist, Rami's powerful vocals became central to the group's sound, continuing what YG described as the company's tradition of soulful, authentic vocals with distinctive timbre.3

On July 30, 2024, Rami appeared on KBS Kpop's web show "Leemujin Service," where she showcased her vocal abilities through solo performances. Opening with an acoustic version of BABYMONSTER's "Forever," she reinterpreted the track with piano accompaniment, displaying her range and emotional delivery. Throughout the episode, she performed covers including Andra Day's "City Burns," Gnarls Barkley's "Crazy," and concluded with a duet with host Lee Mu-jin on AKMU's "Last Goodbye."4

Lee Mu-jin offered high praise during the show, stating that Rami demonstrated impressive variety in vocal tones while maintaining her unique personality. He noted her excellent control of dynamics, saying it gave a clear sense of a story's beginning, middle, and end. Most notably, he compared her to legendary vocalist Celine Dion, commenting that she had "a little Celine Dion vibe."4 The video garnered over 550,000 views within 14 hours of release and currently sits at over 900,000 views.

On May 9, 2025, YG Entertainment announced that Rami would be taking a temporary hiatus from BABYMONSTER activities due to ongoing health concerns. The company stated that her health issues had persisted for some time and that treatment had not yet led to improvement, though they did not specify the nature of her condition.5

As a result of her hiatus, Rami did not participate in BABYMONSTER's July 2025 comeback single "Hot Sauce" or their second mini-album "We Go Up" released in October 2025. She also missed the Asian leg of the group's Hello Monsters world tour, which began in Singapore on May 17 and included sold-out performances across Japan and other Asian countries. According to member Pharita during an October fan meeting, Rami remains unwell but is getting better.

From child model to main vocalist of one of K-pop's most anticipated fourth-generation groups, Rami's journey exemplifies the intensive training and natural talent required to succeed in the competitive K-pop industry.
